Electrocardiogram (EKG) Technicians operate machines that record electromotive variations in a patient’s heart muscle. These tests provide important data for the diagnosis of heart ailments. EKG Technicians perform EKGs, stress testing and Holter monitoring, edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis, schedule appointments and transcribe physicians’ interpretations. Students will earn their CET (Certified EKG Technician) certificate from NHA (National Healthcareer Association). Projected job growth in Medical Technician areas continues to be much faster than the average for all occupations.
In addition to the coursework, students must complete a 60 hour unpaid externship. The externship is scheduled after all coursework is completed.
• High school diploma or GED
• Complete the WorkKeys Assessment
• Attend an orientation meeting with the Program Coordinator
Required Prior to Externship:
• Pass FBI/BCI background check
• Required immunizations: Current Physical with TB (2-step), Hepatitis B Series, 2-MMR vaccines or titer, flu vaccine, and Tetanus.
• Health Care Provider CPR
• Certified EKG Technician (CET)
• WCCC Certificate of Program Completion

Starting pay ranges from $12 to $15 per hour.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,http://www.bls.gov/, employment of cardiovascular technologists and technicians is expected to increase 24 percent through the year 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will stem from the prevalence of heart disease and the aging population.

Warren County Career Center’s Adult and Community Education Full Service Center is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education and operates as a University System of Ohio educational provider through Ohio Higher Ed.
