Environmental Controls (HVAC)
Environmental Controls Technology (HVAC) prepares students for a career that is in demand and enables them to earn certifications that will put them ahead in the job market. This two-year high school program prepares students in the field of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Students will experience job estimating, installation and service of refrigeration systems, controls, mechanical components and general heating systems; and diagnostics and problem solving in residential, industrial and commercial situations. Students will learn about engineering and designing HVAC & R systems.

Skills Gained
■ Analyze and measure electrical values
■ Troubleshoot single phase, split phase and three phase circuits and devices
■ Analyze the mechanical refrigeration cycle and components
■ Identify and perform soldering and brazing procedures
■ Install, service and repair refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
■ Identify and install forced-air heating systems
■ Troubleshoot and service heating systems
■ Assess and fabricate sheet metal

Certifications, College Credit
Graduates may continue their education at many technical schools, colleges, or universities. Students will have the opportunity to earn certification in EPA 608 and 410A.

Internships & Job Placement
In the second year of the program, students may be eligible to start an apprenticeship program. Seniors are eligible for early job placement in the second half of the school year. The criteria for placement include instructor recommendation, grade point aver¬age and attendance.

Career-Technical Student Organization

Students in this program participate in SkillsUSA, a Career-Technical Student Organization serving students in Secondary and Post-Secondary Industrial Engineering and Health Career Training programs in Ohio and the U.S.
