Launch your career in fire service with our Adult Education Fire Academy, designed to equip you with the skills and certifications needed to save lives, respond to emergencies, and serve your community. Whether you're starting with Firefighter I or preparing for full-time firefighting through Firefighter II and EMT training, our program is built to support your success every step of the way.
All fire academy students will engage in physical training as part of the curriculum. While there are currently no fitness prerequisites, this is subject to change—students should be prepared for an active and physically demanding program.
Firefighter I

Class Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Additional Dates: Select Saturdays for live fire training
This entry-level certification prepares you for part-time employment with a fire department, especially when combined with EMT certification. Students will earn:

BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification

Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations (Hazmat)

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC)
Note: All students must complete a fire-specific physical exam and participate in physical training. No fitness prerequisites at this time (subject to change).
Firefighter II

Qualify for full-time roles.
Class Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Additional Dates: Select Saturdays for live fire training
Required for full-time firefighter employment in Ohio (must be combined with EMT or Paramedic certification), the FFII transition course builds on Firefighter I to provide deeper operational knowledge, leadership skills, and high-risk scenario training.
Note: A fire-specific physical and ongoing physical training are required.
Emergency Medical Technician

EMT certification is the gateway to working in EMS, fire service, and hospital environments. This entry-level course qualifies you for:

The WCCC Adult Education Fire Academy prepares individuals for careers in fire and emergency services through hands-on training in Firefighter I & II and EMT certification, meeting Ohio employment requirements for both part-time and full-time roles. Classes are held evenings with select daytime and weekend sessions, and include physical training, clinical experiences, and essential certifications like BLS, Hazmat, and EVOC.
