WCCC Expanding Apprenticeships

Warren County Career Center’s Pre-Apprenticeship Operating Plan has recently been approved by the State of Ohio Apprenticeship Council. WCCC high school students will have a pipeline to apprenticeships through area business partnerships to experience a work environment and opportunities. Pre-Apprenticeships can foster an invitation by the employer for students to be hired into their State-Sponsored Apprenticeship Program. WCCC Adult Education students can also access apprenticeship opportunities with WCCC employer partners.

Every sector of the economy can use the Pre-Apprenticeship to Apprenticeship model to develop their workforce needs. It is a successful talent pipeline strategy that is being embraced beyond construction and manufacturing. WCCC is a registered apprenticeship sponsor and can make the process easy, take the burden of paperwork off the business and set a plan to meet workforce needs.

Advantages for students include:
Full-time employment in an in-demand occupation.
Additional technical training both on the job and in the classroom.
Opportunities to earn college credit and degrees paid for by the employer.
Earning Industry Recognized and portable credentials in an in-demand occupation.

Advantages for area employers include:
Have a workforce talent pipeline of the essential, in-demand skill sets they need for their business to thrive.
Grow the next generation of leadership for their company through grassroots technical training.
Customized training apprenticeships can be developed to specifically meet that company’s technical skill needs.
Currently, WCCC offers pre-apprenticeship opportunities in the areas of:
Information Technology
Public Safety
Educational Services
Health Sciences
Manufacturing
Construction Trades
WCCC has plans to continue to add opportunities as partnerships with area employers are developed and more sectors of the economy embrace Pre-Apprenticeships and Apprenticeships as a talent pipeline strategy. The district has many resources available to help offset training costs for employers, including TechCred, Department of Labor Grant funds, OhioMeansJobs program support, and other funding sources. WCCC can upskill existing workforce with technical training or train the future workforce. Area employers are encouraged to contact WCCC at [email protected] to explore opportunities.
