The Donna Oliver Nursing Scholarship has just been established through the WCCC Education Foundation. Donna, a 1984 graduate and Valedictorian of Franklin High School and the WCCC Diversified Health Occupations program, was inducted into the WCCC Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2019. She had gone on to become a Registered Nurse and worked in that field for 25 years. She passed away a few months after her induction after a long battle with brain cancer. She was an avid softball player, and her former Franklin team mates decided to hold a charity softball game in her honor on Aug. 21 at Franklin Community Park. Donna’s Team was so thrilled to present the WCCC Education Foundation with the funds raised, $3,321, to be used to fund a scholarship for a WCCC/Franklin student pursuing nursing.
“The Life Celebration and Ole’Timers Softball Game in her honor and memory, exceeded expectations. With help from local Franklin businesses, Donna’s favorite sponsor and softball team, Star Pizza, would have one more night to play ball,” teammate Diana Lovett said. “Pisanellos Pizza and A&G Pizza came to the plate. JD Legends, Zinks Meat Market and Franklin Nutrition also contributed to the success of the event. The Donna Oliver Scholarship will be offered in April 2022 and will help change the Stars for a Nursing Student attending WCCC. The family asks that one recipient receives the full amount that was raised, and we plan to make this an annual event.”
Requirements for the scholarship application include: Franklin student in Pre-Nursing or other medical program who is pursuing a Nursing degree in college, exhibits good grades and attendance, and is in need of financial assistance.
